Project goal

The project goal is to support the NKEP for achieving and sustaining the target of elimination of kala-azar as a public health problem in Bangladesh

 General objective of the project

The general objective of the project aims to support the Government of Bangladesh in implementing programme activities with the target of achieving and sustaining kala-azar elimination. This will involve participation of public, private and community stakeholders.

 

Specific objectives of the project

  1. To strengthen VL and PKDL case management, follow up and reporting in the UHC, and specialized centers.
  2. To strengthen the capacity of the programme in supply chain maintenance.
  3. To strengthen monitoring and evaluation of the NKEP within the programme.
  4. To provide interim HR support at the SKKRC until a sustainable solution is implemented by GoB of the SKKRC
  5. To strengthen the capacity of the central level surveillance team in surveillance data management and analysis through provision of a data management officer.
  6. To train district,tertiary and missionary (charity hospitals preferred by marginalized population) hospitals in up-to-date management of kala-azar and PKDL.
  7. To define, develop and implement a comprehensive and evolving VL outbreak investigation strategy in relation to NKEP in Bangladesh.
  8. To strengthen early case detection and referral by HI, AHI, HA of public hospitals and community clinics, BRAC Shasta Karmi and the equivalent from the Damien Foundation, and allopathic and non-allopathic/informal health providers.
  9. To create community awareness about kala-azar symptoms and prevention through existing and newly developed BCC / IEC tools by the program
  10. To support integration of the web based surveillance into the programme and its scale up in all UHCs, SDA (single dose AmBisome) centers and specialized centers in kala-zar endemic sub-districts.
