Project Component 1:
Support national kala-azar elimination programme by providing human resources for its better performance
A number of challenges are facing the national kala-azar elimination programme: robustimplementation of NKEP activities at the Upazila level, supply chain ruptures; weak surveillance particularly in patients’ follow up and reporting, inadequate human resources for management of cases with kala-azar and PKDL in the SKKRC and a lack of dedicated human resource for continuous monitoring and evaluation of programme activities. As such, it is very important to build up an effective centrally controlled field level team which will communicate with all VL service facilities, initiate reporting, monitor service quality, logistic and supply to improve program activities and to solve unexpected problems in consultation with local and central level authorities. Without any updated reporting system, rapid response to any outbreak, proper management of the complicated cases or ensuring availability of key logistics it will be difficult to achieve and sustain elimination targets.
To continue the support for sustainable capacity of the NKEP in improving surveillance, monitoring and evaluation and response capacity for kala-azar elimination in Bangladesh
The activities of this component will cover 100 VL endemic upazilas of 26 districts in Bangladesh
Population at risk for VL is about 30 million in 100 endemic upazilas of 26 districts. Besides, the population of any newly VL affected Upazila(sub-district) will be included.
